CLIENT STORY · SOCIAL SERVICES
Renewed purpose. A more engaged board.
Founded in 1965, the Chinese-American Planning Council is one of the largest nonprofit providers of educational, social, and community services for Asian Americans in the United States. AltruNext designed a tailored board training to strengthen its culture of philanthropy and fundraising confidence.
The challenge
CPC wanted to deepen its culture of philanthropy and help board members feel more confident in fundraising and relationship-building. Members were enthusiastic about the mission but brought different levels of development experience.
The board needed a shared understanding of how each member could contribute through personal connections and collective leadership.
Our approach
01 · Understand
Review the board’s fundraising survey to understand members’ connection to CPC, their views of board responsibilities, and activities they felt ready to pursue.
02 · Inspire
Design a tailored 60-minute virtual session that reconnects members with the mission and their personal motivations for service.
03 · Equip
Explore practical roles as Ambassadors, Advocates, and Askers, using the Triple-A Board model developed by Kay Sprinkel Grace and adapted by CPC.
04 · Connect
Help members identify their unique networks and assets, strengthen donor relationships, and choose meaningful ways to support CPC’s mission.
Fresh energy. Clearer roles. Greater confidence.
The session renewed enthusiasm and strengthened connections among board members. Participants gained a clearer sense of how they could contribute, regardless of fundraising experience.
After the training, members began sharing their “why” stories in meetings and exploring how to engage their professional networks. Several expressed greater confidence in representing CPC’s mission and cultivating donor relationships.
