Job Title: Associate

Start Date: OPEN

Location: Virtual; Chicago, IL may be preferred based upon area of expertise

Job Type: Contract (Part-Time, Full-Time, and Project-based opportunities available)

Hourly Rate: Negotiable, based on experience

Primary Function

Our Associates support our clients in fund development, organizational assessments, strategic planning, and other nonprofit supports. They are skilled at understanding sector best practices and the ever-changing philanthropic landscape. All of our Associates exhibit excellent verbal communication and listening skills, superior persuasive and technical writing skills, and strong project management skills.

Workflow varies based on client needs. Sample job responsibilities often include:

  • Craft Scope of Work proposals based on client needs and desired approach

  • Collaborate with client to define project goals, objectives, and working project plans 

  • Conduct internal audit of existing client organization’s policies, programs, functions, staffing, fundraising outcomes, etc. as needed

  • Identify best practice recommendations and creative strategic approaches based on client needs (e.g., grant strategy, major donor moves management, board development, annual fund, and donor communications, comprehensive fund development plan, etc.)

  • Produce donor-centric communications (e.g., case statements, appeal letters, social media fundraising campaigns, newsletter content, etc.)

  • Coach client organizations—including staff, Board, and volunteer committees (e.g., Development Committees, Capital Campaign Steering Committees, etc.)

  • Write LOIs/proposals and gather required grant documents for submission to potential funders 

  • Manage the entire grant process from research and proposal strategy through submission, notification, and reporting

  • Research potential institutional funders and individual prospects through a variety of means, including subscription-based databases

  • Provide project management expertise to ensure seamless work between the client and company

  • Partner with other Associates on client projects

Qualifications

  • Specific skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills. Capacity to work independently, exercise own judgment, and meet multiple deadlines. Organizational and analytical skills with consistent attention to detail. Project Management, budgeting, and research skills.

  • Character: Initiative goes a long way at AltruNext. Candidate must be self-motivated with a high degree of accountability and possess optimism and belief in the nonprofit sector’s ability to advance the greater good.

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree and ongoing professional development CEUs. Additional credentialing such as CFRE or GPC is desirable. 

  • Experience: Minimum of three (3) years of nonprofit experience, preferably including activities in any of the following: capital campaigns, strategic planning, organizational assessments, fund development planning, donor communications and solicitations, grant writing, prospect/funder research. Candidate must also have experience working collaboratively in team settings with internal and external colleagues.
